Material Explanations

Coverking has a wide selection of materials, each selected to meet a particular cover need and budget. Below are the 6 criteria used for Custom Car Cover Materials, and an explanation of each.

Breathability describes how much moisture vapor trapped under the vehicle can escape through the cover. If a material is not breathable, it will trap moisture and cause rust. A "5" signifies the most breathable material.

Compactness measures how easily the material is to pack, and how small the final packed cover is. A score of "5" identifies the most compact cover. This is an important attribute if you will use your cover often.

Water Resistance is a relative grade of how much water will penetrate the fabric. A "5" signifies the most water resistant material. WATERPROOF materials will not breathe, trapping moisture. All Coverking materials are water resistant, not waterproof.

Natural and Man-Made Hazards, such as bird droppings, tree droppings and industrial fall out are very acidic, and can eat through a car's finish. A score of "5" identifies the material most resistant to these dangerous chemicals.

All Coverking materials are designed not to scratch a vehicle's finish (assuming the vehicle is clean when the cover is installed. However, some materials are softer than others. A "5" rating is the softest.

The Sun's UV Rays damage a vehicle's interior, finish, and also the car cover material. Materials with a "5" rating are most likely not to degrade under extreme sun conditions.

Satin Stretch Car Cover->Satin Stretch is an indoor Custom Car Cover fabric. It will fade if exposed to extended sun, and is not water resistant. Satin Stretch is the SOFTEST fabric available, and has Lycra yarns to hug every contour of a vehicle. Blind stitching results in invisible seams - this is a very SEXY car cover!

There is no alternative, available from any supplier, for this cover.

Satin Stretch feels like lingerie, simple as that! The material has Lycra fibers for stretch in both directions, mirroring every perfect contour of your vehicle. And the inner liner is the softest fleece we've been able to find - specially designed not to rub off on convertible tops. It is available in solid color designs, including Black, Steel Gray, Pearl White, Burgundy Red, Dark Blue, Fly Yellow, Tan, and Forest Green.

Triguard Car Cover ->A 3 layer Custom Car Cover material suited for light weather conditions (perfect for occasional use or vehicles stored under a carport). Triguard is fairly soft and very compact. Do not use Triguard in harsh weather or sun. Triguard is also not suited in areas with industrial fall out (acid rain).

For those who want the Coverking Custom Fit, but don't need protection from heavy weather, Triguard Custom Car Covers are a great choice. Triguard is a lightweight, three layer material which protects from dirt, dust, light water, bird droppings and other mild hazards. Car Cover Corvette, Porsche, 300C, FerrariIt is perfect for use in a garage or under a carport. Triguard is also treated with UV inhibitors, which helps it stand up to ultra-violet rays emitted by the sun. Although Triguard contains these UV inhibitors, it is not recommended for very sunny climates - Silverguard or Stormproof would be better options. Triguard covers are gray in color, and offered with licensed GM logos.

Coverking uses the fewest seams to produce a perfect, custom fit without the "patchwork" look created by sewing small pieces together. Although it costs more, Coverking's designs result in superior fit, looks, and less chance of seams failing or leaking. 

Triguard is a thin and lightweight fabric. The lightness makes it very easy to handle, but offers little protection from dings and scratches. If your vehicle is exposed to dings and scratches from pets, children or a crowded garage, we recommend Coverbond4.

Coverbond 4 Car Cover->4 layers make Coverbond 4 a very thick and bulky Custom Car Cover. It is not suggested for daily users, or for people with large SUVs. However, the extra bulk helps to guard against minor nicks and dings, and even helps in light hail. Coverbond 4 is suggested for moderate weather or indoor use.

Mosom Plus Car Cover-> Mosom Plus is a four layer material. The outer two layers are Spunbond Polypropylene, the middle layer is a special micro-porus film and the inside layer is super-soft fabric.   The middle layer is an excellent rain barrier, while allowing for vapors to pass through.   The special cotton flock inner layer pampers the most delicate paint finish.   It is a great choice for all-around car cover use, suggested for most conditions except extreme sun, snow or ice.   Mosom Plus is a non-woven material, so in the unlikely event a rip occurs in the materlial, it will not run.   As with all Coverking Custom Car Covers, Mosom Plus Covers can be custom made in just 2 days!

Silverguard Car Cover->Similar in properties to Mosom Plus, but with more sun resistance, slightly less breathability and no soft inner liner. Silverguard is a 300 denier polyester woven Custom Car Cover fabric with a unique encapsulative coating. It is perfect for general use, even in very sunny climates. The silver coating helps to reflect sunlight.

 Silverguard is a 300 denier polyester material with a reflective and water resistant coating. It is a great choice for all-round car cover use, suggested for most conditions except extreme rain, snow or ice - in which case we suggest Stormproof. 300 denier is a strong, heavy weve which will not rip or tear easily. The silver coating on Silverguard d oes an excellent job of reflecting sunlight, while keeping rain and animal droppings from damaging the vehicle finish.
Corvettte Car CoverSilverguard car covers are breathable, although not as breathable as Mosom or Stormproof. If your vehicle is exposed to rain for long durations, Mosom or Stormproof are better car cover options. If protection from light nicks, scratches and light hail is required, Coverbond 4 is the best choice.

Silverguard is soft to the touch and won't scratch a vehicle finish (assuming the vehicle is clean when the cover is applied). Silverguard is available in silver color, and offered with optional embroidery and officially licensed GM logos.

Beware of materials which claim to be similar, but are only half the weight - 150 denier material is not suitable for car cover use. Coverking tests all it's materials, including Silverguard, to be compatible with automotive paints and clear coats. Because Coverking is TS16949 and QS-9000 certified, all materials used for Custom Car Covers are tested and OEM approved.

Car Covers use a lot of material, - 30 yards is common for most vehicles. In an effort to save material, some car cover manufactures use patterns which are “chopped up” into small pieces, and sewn together creating a patchwork effect. This method saves more than 20% of total material use, but results in car covers which look like patchwork quilts – seams everywhere. By having extra seams, risks of seam failures and seam leakage increase. In addition, the car cover looses it’s custom look and resembles a universal cover. Coverking has never compromised the function or fit of it’s Custom Car Covers to save a few yards of fabric.     

The qualities that make a Car Cover suitable for use depend largely on the fabric properties. Coverking designs it’s own fabrics, and has the world’s leading textile mills handle the manufacturing. Because Coverking has a team of engineers to specify exact material composition and construction, we are able to meet the most stringent material test requirements set out by the world’s leading vehicle manufacturers. Coverking does not use “off-the-shelf” fabrics, which are ill-suited to car cover needs. All Coverking outdoor Custom Car Cover materials are breathable –this allows moisture which is trapped under the car to escape through the cover, preventing a “greenhouse” condition of condensation which may result in rust damage.
